Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps substance users develop skills and strategies to become and stay healthy. CBT focuses on the here-and-now—on the problems that come up in day-to-day life while battling an addiction. This is a short course of therapy that teaches people to recognize distorted thinking and the feelings and behaviours that flow from it. The clinician then works with the client to help shift the distorted thinking to a healthier, more realistic version, thus changing the feelings and behaviours in a positive manner too.
