The emotional and social wellbeing of family and friends is often as much at risk as that of the person battling addiction. Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) is designed for family members and intimate partners or “concerned significant others,” of individuals struggling with problematic substance use. CRAFT has three main goals:
1. Assist a substance-using loved one to engage in treatment.
2. Teach families how to provide the substance user with social support, promote positive behaviour change and decrease the problematic substance use in a non-shaming fashion.
3. Promote health and wellbeing within families through reducing the negative impact of the substance user’s behaviours.
